Amazing Story of Catholic Woman Who Helped Save 2500 Jewish Children Will Be Discussed on Live CatholicTV Talk Show

On December 7th, the story of Irena Sendler and the three high school girls who produced a nationally-known play about Sendler will be discussed on the CatholicTV talk show “This is the Day”.

Jack Mayer, author of the book “Life in a Jar: The Irena Sendler Project” (Life in Jar), will be interviewed on This is the Day.

Life in a Jar tells the story of Sendler, a Polish Catholic social worker who organized a rescue network to save 2,500 Jewish children from certain death in the Warsaw ghetto.

In 1999, three high school girls from an economically depressed, rural school district in southeast Kansas stumbled upon a reference to Sendler’s rescues, which they fashioned into a history project, a play they called “Life in a Jar”. Their innocent drama was first seen in Kansas, then the Midwest, then New York, Los Angeles, Montreal, and finally Poland.

Life in a Jar has been performed over 250 times. Along the way, the story of the three high school students and Life in a Jar became nationally known and the students appeared on C-SPAN, National Public Radio, CBS, CNN, the Today Show, and in the New York Times, L.A. Times, and more

More information about the Irena Sendler Project can be found at http://www.irenasendler.org/

Fr. Reed on The Coming Advent

For us, Advent is a time of waiting, watching and listening for
the coming of the Lord. And so it will be on CatholicTV! As we
prepare to remember the coming of the Christ Child, we are
asked to wait, to watch and to listen for a sometimes seemingly
absent God.

It is clear from practically everything we read in the
Scriptures that God wishes to be very close to us. Yet it
is equally clear that we do not often believe God is close.
And, when we feel that way, we may feel embarrassed for
having such weak faith.

The truth is, the great saints often felt and complained
that God was not present in their lives. And, before
you think it is only ordinary humans who feel this way,
remember that Jesus himself, from the cross, cried out, in
seeming desperation, “My God, my God, why have you
abandoned me?”

God most often speaks to us through whispers, not
shouts. It seems to me that God is most often found in the
shadows. This is why it’s not so tough to understand why
we don’t often “feel” His nearness and why we assume His
absence in our lives. When it comes to knowing God’s
presence among us, we are all too often like people with
iPods who, having listened to loud music for so long, have
damaged their hearing, and are no longer able to hear
whispers or subtle sounds.

This is why the Church insists on the waiting of Advent.
For me, the greatest wonder and joy of the coming Feast is
found in that quiet anticipation. If we are to see the fragile
light that dawns among us in the Christ Child, we must sit
a while in the quiet darkness. If we are to hear the songs
the angels sing, and not just hear our own voices, we must
first be still and listen, carefully, in silence.

And so I pray that the coming weeks are full of wonder
for you. Happy waiting and listening.

Your Success- A Note From Jay Fadden

I was thinking about the success of CatholicTV recently and my thoughts turned to all of you! We have been blessed to continue to grow and bring the loving message of Christ to people in many different ways. As technology has changed and advanced, we have tried to take full advantage so that we can reach more people. Any success we have had is your success, as well.

CatholicTV is unlike any other television station. We are not driven by ratings or advertising revenue and are not subject to the changing views of society. We are devoted to talking about God and how He impacts the lives of all of us. Without you, none of this would be possible. You are part of the CatholicTV family, the parish of the airwaves. As a community, we succeed. It is together that we affect people’s lives in a real and concrete way. What a great gift you are to so many who may turn on CatholicTV and be touched. It is because of you, and tens of thousands more, that we continue and succeed. Today, there may be someone in a home who happens upon CatholicTV. They may be lonely, depressed or just searching for answers in this difficult world. The Mass, Rosary, or one of the other programs that we cable-cast may make a difference. It may make them realize God is walking with them during their journey. Now that is success!

So, thank you for allowing us to make a difference in people’s lives. With you, we are a strong prayer community guided by the teachings of Jesus. Without you, we are just a TV station. Please continue to pray for the success of CatholicTV.
