Catholic Fatherhood in Focus on "This is the Day" as Father’s Day Approaches

Catholic Fatherhood will be discussed on “This is the Day” on Tuesday, June 2nd. Patrick Kelly, former Capitol Hill attorney and current VP for the Knights of Columbus, will discuss an initiative of the Knights of Columbus started solely to promote fatherhood and to assist fathers.

Also on the show will be Brian Singer-Towns. Brian is a father of 2 and has over twenty-five years of parish, diocesan, and national experience in pastoral ministry. As a member of the Editorial Staff at St. Mary’s Press Brian leads workshops for leaders around the country on biblical literacy and other youth ministry topics.

Patrick Kelly currently serves as the Vice President for Public Policy for the Knights of Columbus. He will be on “This is the Day” talking about “Fathers For Good”. Fathers for Good defines a father as “an ordinary man who is called and equipped to do extraordinary things from day to day – work, provide, protect, pray, get involved with his family, and be there as an example for his children and faithful to his wife.” The Fathers For Good website (http://www.fathersforgood.org/) offers inspiration, advice, and even an opportunity to ask questions about fatherhood and have them answered via email.

Also on the show will be Brian Singer-Towns. Brian spent fifteen years in volunteer and professional youth ministry. He is also the author of several books including “The Catholic Faith Handbook for Youth”. Brian is the General Editor of the newly released Personal Journey Bible published by Saint Mary’s Press (SMP). Since 2000, Saint Mary's Press of Minnesota has donated Catholic Youth Bibles® to inner-city and rural disadvantaged Catholic high schools and ministries and to youth in detention centers throughout the United States. Celebration of the Solemnity of Pentecost From the Vatican on CatholicTV

On Sunday, May 31st, CatholicTV will broadcast the Pentecost Sunday Mass from the Vatican. The Mass will take place in the Cappella Papale of the Vatican Basilica. His Holiness, Pope Benedict XVI will preside at the Celebration of the Solemnity of Pentecost.

The Mass will be broadcast online at CatholicTV.com on Sunday, May 31st at 1PM Eastern. It will be rebroadcast at 8PM. The Mass will also be broadcast simultaneously on CatholicTV. All online broadcasts are available in full-screen.

“Pentecost Sunday, which marks the end of the Easter season in the Christian calendar, celebrates the descent of the Holy Spirit on the Apostles as the climax of the Good News. On this day, all the benefits of the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ rush into the Church through the gift of the Holy Spirit. For this reason, Pentecost is sometimes described as "the Church's birthday".

Pentecost is one of the most ancient feasts of the Church, celebrated early enough to be mentioned in the Acts of the Apostles (20:16) and St. Paul's First Letter to the Corinthians (16:8). It supplants the Jewish feast of Pentecost, which took place 50 days after the Passover and which celebrated the sealing of the Old Covenant on Mount Sinai.”

Papal Visit to the Holy Land - Benedict asks the crowd to Keep Families Strong

At yesterday's Mass in Nazareth, Pope Benedict XVI encouraged the crowd of approximately 40,000 to keep families strong and loving, no matter what faith. This took place at Mt. Precipice near the areas where the Holy Family lived and where Mary gave her "fiat" to the angel Gabriel when asked to give birth to the Son of God.

"Let everyone reject the destructive power of hatred and prejudice, which kills men's souls before it kills their bodies," the pope said during his homily
