2013 Telethon | A message from Jay

This week, as we busily prepare for the 2013 Telethon here at CatholicTV, I'd like to thank you for your affirmation and support, and ask you to consider how you might be able to help us continue our important ministry.

Here at CatholicTV, we bring the Mass daily to the sick and homebound, to active Catholics and to Catholics who, for whatever reason, have been away from the Church. We bring them the Mass as well as our other 23 hours of faith-filled programming, and we couldn't do it without you. So thank you, and please tune into the Telethon on February 1st and 2nd. If you can't, you can still make a pledge! Find out here:

New Episodes of Word On Fire on CatholicTV With Fr. Robert Barron Respond to ‘YouTube Heresies’

Starting in January, CatholicTV will air new episodes of the show “Word on Fire”. These new episodes will include Fr. Barron’s answers to what he calls the “YouTube Heresies”.

These YouTube Heresies are common arguments which Fr. Barron often sees expressed on YouTube by viewers of his videos. In these YouTube Heresies episodes, Fr. Barron responds to the following views:

• scientism-suggests that reality is restricted only to what scientists can explain

• “ecclesial angelism”-the suggestion that the Church and every Church member must be utterly perfect in every way

• Biblical fundamentalism- the view that the bible on the surface, literally read is the word of God

• Marcionism- argues amongst other things that the Old Testament should be completely disregarded

New episodes of Word on Fire will also include interviews of actor Eduardo Verástegui, professional golfer Chip Beck, and discussion about creationism, the fall, and much more.

Word on Fire airs each week at the following times at CatholicTV.com and on CatholicTV cable outlets: Tuesday 9 a.m., Friday, 2 p.m., and Saturday at 1:30 a.m. Starting in January, Word in Fire will also air at 7:30 p.m. (all times Eastern)

New Columns in Free CatholicTV Magazine Teach About Evangelization, Liturgy, and Roman Missal

CatholicTV’s free monthly magazine has added 2 new columns. For the month of October, the two new columns focus on the new Roman Missal and evangelization.

One of the new columns is called Theology 101 and is written by Ms. Rita Thiron, Director of the Office of Worship of the Diocese of Lansing, Michigan.

The other new column is written by Fr. Charles Irvin, a priest who worked as an attorney before entering the seminary and who served as a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. Known as Fr. Charlie, he is the founding editor of Faith magazine, published by the Diocese of Lansing, Michigan, and worked in young adult ministry for 11 years. In the past, Fr. Charlie has written about a wide range of topics, from suffering, to stem cell research, and natural disasters such as Hurricane Katrina. After 40 years of priestly ministry Father lives in "active retirement" in DeWitt, Michigan, on the grounds of St. Francis Retreat Center and has traveled extensively, including five pilgrimages in Europe and the Holy Land.

These two new columns will appear periodically in The CatholicTV Monthly (The Monthly). The monthly is a free magazine produced by CatholicTV. The Monthly typically includes stories and information about CatholicTV, its shows, and subjects of interest to Catholics. The Monthly even includes Catholic crossword puzzles.

CatholicTV also offers a digital version of its monthly magazine called iCatholic which is twice as long as the print version and includes many more articles. iCatholic also has videos integrated right into the magazine which reads just like a print magazine, only with videos inserted into the pages.

The September issue of the digital magazine included stories about Oklahoma State University basketball coach Kurt Budke and how his Catholic faith goes with his job. This article was among over a dozen, most of which focused on education, since the school year started in September for most students.

The digital magazine can be viewed now at: http://www.CatholicTV.com/catholic-magazine.aspx

Sign-up for the print magazine can be found at http://www.CatholicTV.com/magazine/subscribe.aspx

New CatholicTV Show Highlights Lives and Spirituality of Catholic College Students and a Unique Religious Order

Starting September 6th, CatholicTV will air a new program called “Hope on Campus”. Hope on Campus follows the relatively young religious order- (est. 1980) the Brotherhood of Hope (BOH).

BOH serves at large, secular universities, “trying to go where the Gospel is often ignored, into the thick of secular culture”.

The new 13-part series, Hope on Campus, explores the work of the Brotherhood of Hope. Some of the amazing work they are known for include large retreats which often have more than 100 participants.

Each episode includes an on-site, student-produced video. Episode themes include:

Mission to Tanzania: Students volunteer to visit Tanzania and help the local community.

Sex and Life on Campus: BOH responds to “Sex Week” and gathers students from all four of their campuses for a trip to the March for Life in Washington, D.C.

Opening Week Evangelization: Shows how BOH and Catholic students welcome new students to campus and evangelize them.

CatholicTV broadcasts on various cable outlets in the U.S. and streams its broadcast 24/7 at CatholicTV.com.

The weekly schedule for Hope on Campus is as follows: Tuesday. 8:30 p.m., Friday. 6 p.m., Saturday. 11:30 a.m. and 10:30 p.m.

Each week, a new, full-length episode of Hope on Campus will be added to the CatholicTV.com website. Starting the week of September 6th, simply visit http://www.CatholicTV.com/campus-ministry.aspx
