CatholicTV Asks Catholics to Help Spread CatholicTVeverywhere

Image courtesy of Glenmary Research Center (red areas indicate dense Catholic population)

CatholicTV recently launched an effort calling on Catholics to help spread CatholicTV across the nation.

Catholicism is the largest religious denomination in the United States. Close to a quarter of the US population identifies themselves as Catholic. 52% of Pennsylvania residents are Catholic, 44% in Massachusetts, 37% in California, and 36% in New York (Source: Wikipedia).

Despite these large numbers, many Catholics have only one or at most two Catholic television channels to choose from in their local areas. CatholicTV is available to carriers free-of-charge.

CatholicTV is asking people to visit http://www.CatholicTVeverywhere.com and join its list of supporters. Names of supporters are used in a similar fashion as a petition, which will show cable and satellite providers the amount of support and demand for Catholic television programming. This in turn, should help CatholicTV to spread its programming to more cities.

CatholicTV Will Announce Newest Media “Innovation” on March 23rd

On March 23rd, on its signature, live talk show “This is the Day”, CatholicTV will announce its latest media innovation. CatholicTV is not releasing details to the public beforehand.

In 2009, CatholicTV announced several innovations including two of the firsts of their kind; a Catholic television “app” for the iPhone, and the CatholicTV widget which is essentially a “miniature T.V. set” for any website. The widget, which is called CatholicTVjr allows website visitors to watch full-length programs which are on CatholicTV.

Since CatholicTV is a non-profit corporation concerned with spreading the Gospel, CatholicTV offers both the iPhone app and the widget to the public free of charge. CatholicTV also does not charge fees to watch its live online stream or any of its programs at CatholicTV.com

Director of the CatholicTV Network, Fr. Robert Reed came up with the latest innovation for CatholicTV, which he plans to discuss on This is the Day on March 23rd. CatholicTV began airing promotional videos for the new innovation on March 8th.

More information about the CatholicTV iPhone app can be found at www.CarryYourFaith.com

More information about the CatholicTV widget “CatholicTVjr” can be found at www.CatholicTVjr.com

Once the announcement is made, information about the new innovation will be available at www.CatholicTV.com

Catholic Morality Show, Game Show, and New Reality Series Highlight New Fall Season at CatholicTV

On Monday, September 7th, CatholicTV will launch its fall season of programming. New shows include the CatholicTV reality series “House+Home” and “The Prophets and You”. In addition, a new show produced by and for Chinese Catholics will premiere along with another show which gives viewers a look at the social justice work of the Church.

Both “Wow: The CatholicTV Challenge” and “We’ve Got to Talk” shows have new seasons which will air starting in September. Filming “Wow” involved 2 straight weeks of packing hundreds of students into the CatholicTV studios in Watertown, MA. The contestants are 3rd graders who answer a question based on show theme. The new season of “Wow” will include important themes such as the Roman Pontiff, which will help Catholics of all ages better understand the Pope and his role in the Church. The set for WOW consists of a dramatic, star-studded backdrop, platforms upon which the audience sit, and is drenched in deep blue light. Three 64-inch flat-panel monitors are suspended over the audience, which convey some of the show’s video effects.

A new “series” of special programs, documentaries, and short films focusing on Catholic moral issues called “Body Matters” will also make its premier in September. “Body Matters” will begin in September with teaching on Pope John Paul II’s Theology of the Body taught by Fr. Roger Landry, a Harvard-educated diocesan priest of Fall River, Massachusetts. Also included in Body Matters is a special by Father Tad Pacholczyk , the Director of Education for the National Catholic Bioethics Center in Philadelphia, on the Church’s teaching on In-vitro fertilization(IVF).

“Fountain of Love and Life” is a new series made by Chinese Catholics. The series is mostly in Cantonese with Chinese and English subtitles. The new show will be one of the most dynamic on CatholicTV, with episodes about prison ministry, vocations, service to the poor, and even Chinese singers who give their talents to the Lord.

The new series “Where God Weeps” shows Catholic missionaries working with the poor all over the world including Haiti, Kenya, the U.S., Asia, Lebanon, and many other places as well. This series is produced by the Catholic international agency: Aid to the Church in Need.

Viewers may learn more about the new season by visiting: http://www.CatholicTV .com/features/default.aspx?featureStoryID=30

Catholic Celebrities Breaking News And Laughs on Catholic Talk Show

CatholicTV airs “This Is The Day” twice each week. The show features interviews of Catholic celebrities, Catholic news, and discussion of current Catholic issues.

CATHOLIC CELEBRITIES

Each episode of “This Is The Day” includes interviews of Catholic guests. Guests have included celebrities such as Boston Red Sox Legend Johnny Pesky, musician and founder of Little Lamb Music Ray Herrmann (played with Chicago, Santana, Whitney Houston etc), Tarek Saab (from the Apprentice) and others. Bishops, clergy and missionaries from all over the country around the globe are also regular guests on the show.

CHALLENGES AND HILARIOUS ANTICS

The talk show presents unique challenges to the hosts of the show Jay Fadden, Fr. Robert Reed, and Kevin Nelson. For example, Conan O’Brien doesn’t have to hear co-workers’ confessions like host Fr. Robert Reed does. David Letterman doesn’t have to run the entire TV station like Jay Fadden does. Often times Jay, Fr. Reed, and Kevin are in the middle of meetings and getting off of phone calls minutes before they hear “lights, camera, action!”. In that short time, they may have to speed-read about their guests and decide on what to discuss just seconds before the show airs live at 10:30AM Eastern.

On one hilarious December morning, Fr. Reed improvised by singing “Oh Christmas Tree” after the teleprompter malfunctioned.

APRIL 2009 GUESTS

Guests in April will include:

*John Iannone (expert on the Shroud of Turin),
*Tim Drake- Writer from National Catholic Register and author of “Behind Bella”
*Renée Bondi top-selling independent Contemporary Christian Artist and motivational speaker
*Ken Hackett- President of Catholic Relief Services
*Brad Seng, professional tri-athlete and motivational speaker
And others

“This is the Day” airs each week on Tuesdays and Fridays at 10:30AM (EST)
