Boston seminarians

It's so wonderful to be able to see the seminarians from St John's Seminary in Brighton at the station here at CatholicTV. Whether it's to attend Father Reed's class on communication and evangelization in the conference room, or to accompany a priest for Daily Mass, they are welcome visitors!

Today Father Ed Riley celebrated Mass for us, and was joined by Deacon Chris Wallace who will, by the grace of God, be ordained this May. Deacon Chris is a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel parish in Quincy.

Before Mass, Father Reed asked Fr Riley to bless our new vestments for Solemnities, and Deacon Chris joined Fr Riley in being the first to wear them!

Deacon Chris delivered the homily and preached about St Joseph and "actions speaking louder than words". You can watch it right here:

Thanks Deacon Chris and Fr Riley!

Have You Thanked Your Priest Lately? EncouragePriests.org to Be Discussed on CatholicTV

On September 28th, a relatively new website which is meant to encourage priests and vocations will be discussed on the CatholicTV talk show “This is the Day”.

After talking to a priest, Tom Peterson, the founder of Catholics Come Home, was reminded that priests typically have heavy workloads, demanding ministries, and sometimes feel lonely.

Tom came up with the idea of an online resource that would help lay people encourage and support their priests. EncouragePriests.org does this by offering special emails and notes called “Collar Hollers” which can be mailed or emailed to priests. These notes say thank you to priests and “spiritual bouquet” notes let priests know that the sender is praying for them. Senders of spiritual bouquets can offer masses, Rosaries, Adoration and other prayers and devotions for their priests.

www.encouragepriests.org was launched by the Catholic media apostolate, Catholics Come Home, more information may be found at http://www.catholicscomehome.org/

Tom Peterson will be interviewed on the live talk show “This is the Day”. This is the Day airs at 10:30AM ET at CatholicTV.com and on CatholicTV cable outlets. The show is rebroadcast at 7:30PM and other times during the week.

Tom Peterson has over 25 years of experience as an award-winning and record-setting national corporate advertising executive and entrepreneur. Mr. Peterson speaks at National Catholic Conferences and pro-life events throughout the United States and internationally, and has presented at the Vatican and the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. He has also been featured in hundreds of media outlets.

In Honor of The Year of the Priest, CatholicTV will air special “Priest” Programming in August

Throughout August, CatholicTV will air several shows starring priests or about the priesthood. These shows include a Catholic game show hosted by a priest, Conversations with Cardinal Seán O’Malley, a “series” promoting priestly vocations, and even a show starring a Servant of God.

Although much of CatholicTV’s programs are hosted by or involve the priesthood, a particular emphasis will be given on the priesthood during the month of August. For example, CatholicTV airs a special programming block called “The Call” which promotes various religious orders including certain female religious orders. However, for the month of August, “The Call” will focus on priestly vocations and vocations to the brotherhood.

Another CatholicTV programming block entitled “Catholic Saints and Lay People” will focus on priests including Servant of God, Father Patrick Peyton. Are You Ready to Meet Jesus Face to Face? CatholicTV Show Asks Eye-Opening Questions of Priests

Two days ago, on June 29th, CatholicTV began airing a show entitled “Feed My Sheep”. CatholicTV is airing this series in honor of the beginning of the Year for Priests. “Feed My Sheep” takes viewers into the minds and lives of priests. In each episode, priests are asked questions such as: “When you meet Jesus face to face, what words would you expect to hear and why?” as well as, “How has the crisis in the Church changed you?”

“Feed My Sheep” is hosted by the Director of CatholicTV, Father Robert Reed. This series was originally broadcast several years ago, and was Father Reed’s first series as Director.

Each episode of “Feed My Sheep” features several priests answering the same question. Some of these questions include:

What motivated you to look to the priesthood?

Describe some of the significant moments of your priesthood.
As a priest, what keeps you going?

How has the crisis in the Church changed you?

What person has had the most significant impact upon your ministry as a priest?

How has and does the celebration of the liturgy and the mystery of the Eucharist affect your priesthood?

Since you are busy and days can be long and prayer is work and takes time, how do you remain a man of prayer?

What are the most important aspects of your life and work as a priest?
How can we, how do you foster vocations to the ministerial priesthood? What kind of man does it take to be a good priest?

When you meet Jesus face to face, what words would you expect to hear and why?

Some of the priests featured on the show include: Father Michael Steele, Father Paul Ring, Father Richard Cannon, Father Paul Aveni, Father Henry Cunney, Father Michael Drea, Father Paul Ritt, Father John Mulloy, Father Larry Drennan, Father Tom Kopp, Father Richard Clancy, and Father Dan Mahoney

These priests are involved in a variety of ministries including Theology on Tap, campus ministry, fire department chaplaincy, and many others.

The weekly CatholicTV schedule is as follows (Eastern Time): Monday 3:30 PM, Friday 5:30 AM Saturday 11:30 PM.
