Although, I am hopeful that programs like "Catholics Come Home" will bear fruit, I am afraid that past damage has been done, too much time has gone by, and those who have left are already gone. We are no longer a "pray, pay and obey" community. Those who remain are now asking "Why?, How so?, Is that all there is?, to the Church.
It is too little too late, and I fear we will see more parish reconfigurations and closings, as vocations to religious life continue to decline, along with diocesan revenues. Our lay ministries will have to expand in order to cover the clergy shortfall, and keep some parishes open.
