Creator of ‘Matrix’ Vocations Poster To Be Interviewed on CatholicTV

On November 17, Missy Scarlett, the designer of several “Year For Priests” posters will appear on the CatholicTV live talk show “This is the Day”. One of Missy’s best-known works is a vocations poster depicting a young, hip, priest in clerical robes which appears similar to the all-black outfit worn by “Neo” the character played by actor Keanu Reeves in the film “The Matrix". The black and white poster sold more than 1800 copies and was well-received by young people.

Missy “chose to be true to my artistic visions as a homage to God….the source of all creation”. She also says that “God has awakened me with a passion that lies in the heart-felt goal of creating art that has glorifying purpose and meaning behind it. My hope is that people will be affected by these works, and have a rejuvenated faith…” Missy also produced a poster to encourage people to participate in the sacrament of reconciliation, it’s title is “Think Inside the Box”. Her creativity and enthusiasm for the sacraments has inspired people of all ages.

After the success of the Matrix-style vocations poster, Missy was asked to produce a poster for the Archdiocese of Indianapolis which shows a mosaic of Jesus crucified. Upon closer inspection, one can see that the mosaic is made up of individual portraits of every priest in the Archdiocese of Indianapolis.

More information on Missy Scarlett and her works is available at www.truescarlett.com

Missy Scarlett‘s interview can be seen on Tuesday, November 17th live at 10:30AM (EST) on CatholicTV where available (rebroadcast at 8PM). The CatholicTV Monthly: "It's all for you!"

From his first days as director of CatholicTV®, Father Robert Reed considered viewers of America’s Catholic Television Network™ like family. Staying in touch with that family amidst the everyday changes of the television industry, cable competition and evolving electronic media is one of the biggest challenges he still faces. The line drawn between old and new media is as clear as mud, but Father Reed still values both.In 2004, Father Reed attended the Catholic Communications Convention in Los Angeles. He happened upon a copy of FAITH Magazine at a display table. He remembers, “I knew instantly that this was a tool which could really help us at CatholicTV. Later that day, I was fortunate enough to meet Father Charlie Irvin, the founding editor of FAITH.” Within a year, the CatholicTV Monthly was part of the FAITH Catholic family of magazines. With the timing of the two media ministries expanding rapidly at roughly the same time, it was a marriage made in heaven.

During Father Reed’s tenure at CatholicTV, the station has moved from rented and antiquated studios to its own modern home. Its broadcast is available on more cable companies and in more parts of the United States than ever. The station can be viewed on Sky Angel nationwide. CatholicTV.com had two major upgrades and is proud to be called Your Catholic Broadband Network®, an on-demand library of all that is CatholicTV.

Amidst the growth, keeping the CatholicTV family informed remains one of the most important aspects of the mission of CatholicTV, proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ as it is lived and understood in the Catholic community. Self promotion via television and Internet has always been the primary mode of communication within the family for obvious reasons. Prior to discovering FAITH Catholic, the station connected with viewers by direct mail using a simple monthly mailing similar to the parish bulletin.

When Father Reed became director, he inherited a mailing list that needed some TLC and the old bulletin was losing its luster. He recalls, “I knew we needed something fresh, with pizzazz and colorful appeal that we could put into the hands of viewers and perspective viewers alike. I believed then that FAITH Catholic was the perfect solution and still do.” In fact, the circulation of the magazine has more than doubled in less than four years.

As CatholicTV continues its outreach, connecting with dioceses, religious orders, educational institutions, and other Catholic organizations often requires an introduction. Having the CatholicTV Monthly to offer these new connections is vital to the station’s efforts. Father Reed says, “The magazine, so beautifully produced, showcases the service that CatholicTV provides and our commitment to truly be America’s Catholic Television Network. It is an invitation to those who see it not only to investigate CatholicTV but also to recognize our 50-plus years of experience as a platform for telling the story of the Church.”

The magazine is the one way CatholicTV can guarantee reaching its audience every month. Sometimes it actually dictates what programming will air on CatholicTV in a given month. Other times, the monthly is the best way to give viewers notice that special papal programming or a special event, such as the installation of a new ordinary will, pre-empt their favorite show. Thus, it is critical for CatholicTV to have almost complete control over the content of the magazine. “FAITH Catholic offers us the kind of flexibility to meet these needs” says Father Reed.

Akin to the pontifical motto of John Paul II “Totus Tuus”, the slogan of CatholicTV is “It’s all for you!” Father Reed explains, “In order for us to be faithful to those words, we need consistent and vibrant contact with the CatholicTV family. We want people to know what is going on and what we have planned and it’s important for us to be able to offer something tangible, something that we can place into the hands of our viewers on a regular basis. The CatholicTV Monthly published by FAITH Catholic’s very helpful and talented staff provides a premium solution.”

Catholic Author Will Discuss Ministry and His Brush With Death on CatholicTV Talk Show

On November 13th, Sean McVeigh the author of “I’ve Got to Change” will appear on the CatholicTV talk show “This is the Day”. “I’ve Got to Change” is a true story of a near-death experience, recovery, conversion, and the journey to God from a young person’s perspective. Sean McVeigh is a speaker and an author who gives talks about subjects such as the Eucharist, discerning God’s will, chastity, relationships, marriage, and more.

Below is an excerpt from Sean’s book, “I’ve Got to Change”. “We were dangerously close to the intersection when he finally locked up the brakes. The tires screamed! As for me in my little world, everything seemed to become dead silent and we started to move in slow motion. The speedometer came creeping back from the grave and could barely be seen lowering beneath 85. The last thing I remember THINKING as the car began to slide slightly to the right was, “We’re going to make it. We’ll slide right around the turn and be fine.” The last thing I remember SEEING was the stop sign flash past my head. At that moment, a loud roar of metal thunder ripped through the still night. We had smashed head-on into a tree doing at least 75 miles per hour. Just writing about it gives me the chills to this day.”

Sean McVeigh, founder of McVeigh Ministries Inc., was raised Catholic in a small rural town in Pennsylvania. He will discuss his ministries, and his story on “This is the Day”.

Sean’s interview can be seen on Friday, November 13th live at 10:30AM (EST) on CatholicTV where available (rebroadcast at 8PM). The show will also be streamed simultaneously at www.CatholicTV.com and will be available on the site’s archives starting Friday night. All videos at the website are viewable in full-screen. At Bravo Surgical (Marine equivalent to a M.A.S.H. unit) he received over 1500 casualties and 81 deaths. In one instance, which he discusses during the short film, Fr. Ron recalls being at the deathbed of a marine named Edward. Moments before Edward’s death Fr. Ron wanted to tell Edward that he loved him, “but that’s not easy for guys to do, even priests” says Fr. Ron. Finally, a force inside of Fr. Ron compelled Fr. Ron to tell the dying soldier that he loved him.

During the short film Fr. Ron tells numerous similar stories while sitting near barbed wire, by a helicopter, and in a Church. The short-film features footage of Fr. Ron setting up his portable altar which includes a small chalice which must be assembled from 2 pieces. Fr. Ron can also be seen interacting with soldiers, and praying in his tent during the short film. The special was produced by Christian Peschken and was filmed at Ft. McCoy in Wisconsin with the support of the US Army. Christian has the exclusive rights to produce a documentary on the book and is developing the script. Honoring Veterans "Tear in the Desert"

The book "Tear in the Desert" is the "journey into the heart of Iraq war". The following book synopsis is from Fr Ron's website: Father Ron Camarda was recalled to Active Duty to serve with the Marines during the Battle for Fallujah, Iraq (2004). At Bravo Surgical (Marine equivalent to a M.A.S.H. unit) he received over 1500 casualties and 81 deaths. When he returned home he found his work was not done. Walking with the widows and families left behind has been filled with great love and compassion. This is a walk with God into the war in the desert, only to find that the real war is within the human heart. The Afterward is by Colonel Mike Shupp, USMC Commanding Officer, Regimental Combat Team-1, Fallujah 2004-2005

The special was produced by Christian Peschken and was filmed at Ft. McCoy in Wisconsin with the support of the US Army. Christian has the exclusive rights to produce a documentary on the book and is developing the script.
