‘The Five Love Languages’ Author Gary Chapman to Be Interviewed on CatholicTV

On December 22, Dr. Gary Chapman, author of the best-selling book “The Five Love Languages” will be interviewed on the CatholicTV talk show “This is the Day”.

The episode will stream live at www.CatholicTV.com and on CatholicTV where available at 10:30AM ET. The show will be rebroadcast at 8PM the same day.

Dr. Chapman has over 30 years of counseling experience and has determined that there are very specific languages of love which work for everyone. He will discuss these languages tailored for singles during his interview on This is the Day. Gary Chapman speaks extensively throughout the U.S. and internationally on marriage, family, and relationships. The government of Singapore invited him to present his marriage seminar there and the Chaplain’s Office of NATO issued a special invitation for Dr. Chapman to speak to the NATO forces in Germany. Other engagements have taken him to England, Africa, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Mexico and Hong Kong.

Sales exceeding 5 million copies earned Dr. Chapman the Platinum Book Award from the Evangelical Publishers Association for The Five Love Languages, which has been translated into over thirty-six languages. Twenty-seven other books and five video series are also among his publications.

"A Living Faith” is an eight-hour thought provoking series of presentations and discussions of essential Roman Catholic themes taken from the new Catechism. The Sacraments, Ethics, Morality, Prayer and other major themes are brought to life by the distinguished faculty members of the Weston Jesuit School of Theology and the people who participate in open discussions. “A Living Faith” is meaningful for Catholics and people of all faiths who want to gain a better understanding of the fundamental concepts and beliefs of the Catholic Church.

The series was produced in 2008 by Weston Jesuit faculty members and Cramer Productions. ,won a 2009 Bronze Telly Award in the Religious/Spiritual category. “A Living Faith: Themes from the Catechism of the Catholic Church” features lectures by Boston College Dean Richard J. Clifford, S.J., and faculty members Kevin F. Burke, S.J.; Margaret Eletta Guider, O.S.F.; Thomas D. Stegman, S.J.; John F. Baldovin, S.J.; Peter E. Fink, S.J.; Edward V. Vacek, S.J.; Thomas J. Massaro, S.J.; and John Randall Sachs, S.J. The series ran on CatholicTV in 2008 and 2009.

Faculty member Thomas A. Kane, C.S.P., served as the series executive producer. The Telly Awards honor “the very best local, regional, and cable television commercials and programs, as well as the finest video and film productions, and work created for the Web.”

President of College Committed to No More than 100 Students and Rated a “Best Buy” Will Appear on CatholicTV Talk Show

On December 18th, Dr. Jeffrey Karls, President of Magdalen College will appear on the CatholicTV talk show “This is the Day”. Magdalen College, in Warner, New Hampshire, is a four-year coeducational Roman Catholic liberal arts college offering a curriculum based on the classic texts of Western civilization.
The college was established by Catholic laymen responding to the Second Vatican Council’s call for spiritual renewal. It was chartered August 22, 1973 and enrolled its first students in September 1974.

Magdalen, rated a ‘best buy’: the Center for the Study of Catholic Higher Education, the research division of The Cardinal Newman Society, recently issued a report on college costs, revealing that some of the most faithfully Catholic colleges and universities in the United States, including Magdalen College, offer students significant cost savings. This report was commissioned in response to the economic recession as a way of helping parents and students in their search for a college.

Dr. Karls is the 3rd president of Magdalen College and is an alumnus. He served as Executive Vice President before assuming the presidency in 1998. He serves on the Board of Directors for the Institute on Religious Life and the Sedes Sapientiae Foundation, which supports the Benedictine Monastery of San Benedetto in Norcia, Italy. He and his wife Julie have 9 children, their eldest daughter, Mary is a 2009 graduate.

His Eminence Seán Cardinal O'Malley, O.F.M. Cap, Archbishop of Boston, joined Magdalen College to launch the regional accreditation process with the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC). "You who make Magdalen College a reality are my heroes," Cardinal O'Malley said. "I am so grateful." Magdalen College is accredited by the American Academy for Liberal Education.

CatholicTV Hopes 4500 Viewers Will ‘Step Forward’

In December of 2008, The CatholicTV Network received record support from loyal viewers despite the recession.

In 2009, much of CatholicTV’s equipment needs updating, including cameras which are 15 years old. Due to increased innovations and needs, show support with a card or mail in a donation this December.

CatholicTV periodically updates viewers on air about the amount of mail received month-to-date.

CatholicTV began broadcasting over 50 years ago in the city of Boston as the world’s first diocesan television station. Monsignor Walter Flaherty came up with the idea of launching a television station that would broadcast the Sunday Mass (Sunday church service for Catholics) to those unable to leave their homes. Ultimately, his vision became CatholicTV.

When Monsignor Flaherty presented the idea to the then Archbishop Richard Cushing, the Bishop agreed to let him proceed on the condition that the station would not cost the diocese any money. After 50 years, the station not only is still self sufficient, but has grown at a rapid pace due to the affirmation and support of millions of people over the years.

CatholicTV recently launched 2 unique innovations. These include the CatholicTV widget, which allows a “miniature CatholicTV set” to be added to any website. Websites use the widget (called CatholicTVjr) to attract more site visitors by offering Catholic video content to their site visitors at no charge.

The other recent innovation by CatholicTV which received significant media coverage was the CatholicTV iPhone application. This application allows iPhone and iPod touch users to watch the Catholic mass and other

Programming to celebrate Our Lady of Guadalupe feast

On December 12th, CatholicTV celebrates the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, patroness of the Americas, and protector of children. To begin the feast day Mass is celebrated at 9:30am. Father Robert Reed Director of the CatholicTV Network has a beautiful homily prepared about Our Lady of Guadalupe, defender of life, and a true Advent blessing.

Our Blessed Mother appeared to a convert to the faith, Juan Diego in 1531. Juan shared this vision with the Bishop of Mexico City. Juan asked that the Bishop comply with Our Lady's request to have a church built. As Father Reed shares in his homily, the bishop was skeptical and asked Juan for proof of the apparition. Juan explained his plight to Our Lady and she asked him to have faith to gather flowers and bring them to the Bishop. Juan did so and carried the flowers in his cloak, which is called a tilma. When Juan Diego opened his tilma, everyone present fell to their knees before the image of Our Lady, which had appeared on the rough cloth. A church was built on the site of apparitions, which houses the tilma which pilgrims flock to each year, miracles continue to be attributed to the intercession of Our Lady of Guadalupe.

CatholicTV also will air some wonderful productions from the 127th Annual Convention of the Knights of Columbus which took place in Phoenix Arizona. The conference was followed by the First International Marian Congress on Our Lady of Guadalupe. It was during these events that Supreme Knight, Carl Anderson and Monsignor Chávez presented their book on Our Lady of Guadalupe. It is on the New York Time best sellers list.

On the feast day, CatholicTV will air the Guadalupe Festival and the International Rosary at noon and 8pm (ET).

In March CatholicTV will air the presentations which took place at the Congress including speakers Msgr. Eduardo Chávez, postulator of the cause for the canonization of now-St. Juan Diego, rector of the Institute for Guadalupan Studies and a canon of the Basilica of Guadalupe.He co-authored a book on Our Lady of Guadalupe with Supreme Knight Carl Anderson.

Dr. José Aste Tonsmann, a Cornell University graduate of environmental systems engineering, who is now with the Mexican Center of Guadalupan Studies. he will discuss the ophthalmological scientific support behind the miraculous image of Our Lady of Guadalupe on Saint Juan Diego’s tilma.

CatholicTV to Air Guadalupe Festival With Carl Anderson, Immaculée Ilibagiza, Eduardo Verástegui and Others

On Saturday, December 12th, the Feast of Our Lady Of Guadalupe, CatholicTV will air the Guadalupe Festival which took place in Glendale, Arizona. The festival includes footage of talks by Carl Anderson, music by Mexican pop star Alexander Acha, and a procession featuring the only relic in the U.S. of the actual tilma of Juan Diego.

Carl Anderson is the chief executive officer and chairman of the board of the world’s largest Catholic family fraternal service organization, the Knights of Columbus which has more than 1.75 million members. During the Guadalupe Festival, Mr. Anderson announced the release of his newest book, Our Lady of Guadalupe: Mother of the Civilization of Love, which he co-authored with Monsignor Eduardo Chávez. The book is Mr. Anderson’s second New York Times bestseller

The Guadalupe Festival was produced by Salt and Light Television and the Knights of Columbus and is hosted by Salt and Light Television Director Fr. Tom Rosica.

The festival was attended by more than 22,000 people. The festival video footage includes a talk by Eduardo Verástegui in which he discusses his conversion. He is best known for his star role in the movie “Bella”. “I had everything in my life, but in my heart, I had nothing,” Verástegui said. After feeling called to something greater, he decided that he would never work in anything that would offend his faith, his family or his Latino culture.

Immaculée Ilibagiza also spoke about her reliance on Jesus and Mary after the Rwandan genocide of 1994. She attributed her survival during those days to prayer and praying the rosary which her father gave her.
